Checking and Posting to the Blog

In Firefox I added a link on the bookmarks toolbar "Info of Value". Everytime you post a new blog entry a link will be added under this button. Click it and see - it's an easy way to see what's new. I also added a blog sign in link to make it quicker to post (the username and pass are saved, no need to remember).

What this blog I think would be useful for is replacing the blue "info of value" folder. Anything that you would put in there or otherwise would want to staff to know about could instead be posted to the blog. If the post reflects something permanent (e.g. new policy, etc) print out your post and place in ref desk procedures binder. Anything that needs action or decision is best left to email and in person.

RefDesk copy cards

I checked the balance of the assorted copy cards we have at the ref desk. They total 2.62 and one is empty. I put a sticky on each one with its balance. They're all in the top drawer of the refdesk.

Bloomberg Sign Up

FYI I have printed out sign up sheets for Bloomberg for when the assignment starts in earnest. They are in the in tray next to the lamp on the ref desk. The file is also saved in u:/hrmg/common/forms/reference and the desktop.

Valuables in Lost and Found

Bruna has just called me re the passport which the student left in the photocopier last Thursday. She had received a report from Security about it, because the student needed to have it to leave Canada that night and the library was closed. Security came in and retrieved it for him.

We should never put valuable items such as passports in the Lost and Found but should give them to Security immediately. McLennan has a list of what types of things we should be keeping and what we should not. Bruna is asking Bob to send me the info and I will forward it to everybody.

Datastream signup in effect

Datastream will be heavily used over the next two weeks by management students looking to compare spot and forward rates of their selected currencies. I agree with Judy that we should create a booking system to minimize any problems that should arise.

New websites to add

I think we should add Yahoo finance to our list of useful sites. It has a lot of information that is available for free to the public, though one will need to register beforehand. What do you think? Have other suggestions?
