Local Quebec Business Directory

Hi All,

I found this site through "Quebec Local Business Search". You can search by city/borough level, postal code, refine by number of employees and NAICS. You can also keyword search.

Similiar to ICRIQ but seems to be more comprehensive. For example I did a search for all companies in Saint-Laurent borough with NAICS for Telecommunications. ICRIQ returned 4 results, this site returned 12 results. It's not clear from the site how they compile this directory and keep it up to date.

Should we add this to our web site's list of directories under "Online reference"?

Accès Montréal Maps and Publication

In entering the old Real Estate Finance reference question on obtaining borough maps from Accès Montréal offices I found an interesting web site from the city that allows you to search all the publications and download.

You can enter keywords, and limit by subject and by borough - could be useful for more than maps. To find Accès maps, select "subject" - maps and select "published by" - whatever borough you want. Then the student could download instead of having to visit the Accès office.

I put this info in the ref question EndNote db.

Finding Risk Premium in Bloomberg

For future reference, the function to obtain Risk Premium (e.g. Market Premium) in Bloomberg is ticker EQUITY eqrp GO.

Rajiv also mentioned that some students are coming in looking for other company financials/ratios, etc. which can be found by looking through the company financials section, ticker EQUITY GO, choose 9)"Fundamentals and Earnings Analysis" then 1) "Financial Analysis"

This info will also be retained in the green "ref questions" folder and eventually put into our EndNote ref questions database.

Added Bloomberg Guides Link

Hi All,

I found this really excellent and comprehensive Bloomberg site from Princeton, http://firestone.princeton.edu/econlib/blp/bloomberg.htm .
It is a web site with links to their own guides and other guides on the net – getting started stuff and also links to Bloomberg guides that cover specific functions or concepts (e.g. Risk Analysis, Bonds, etc.).

I put a shortcut to this web site on the Bloomberg station desktop. I think it is a useful resource to suggest to students who want more documentation on using Bloomberg than we have. Let me know what you think.

David's TQM article

Hi All,

I noticed a press release today on the Faculty web site about Prof. Robert David's article on management fads in the latest Academy of Management Journal. It's getting press in newspapers and such.

The article is quite interesting. Also interesting is that we don't have the main info source David used for his study(from article):

"The leading source of data on management consulting is Kennedy Information, a specialized firm that produces directories, newsletters, and industry
reports. Kennedy’s Directory of Management Consultants is the oldest industry reference and the only one that is not limited to large firms. Editions have been published bi- or triennially since 1977."

Concordia has this resource. I was wondering if this is an item we should acquire or would Prof. David be the only person interested?

Current Periodicals in Binding

Hi All,

Gail has removed some old issues from the current periodicals to the processing area as they are going to be sent out for binding in the next few weeks. If a student requests these issues they can borrow them by asking at the Circ desk for the issues they need.

Datastream Help Contact

Hi All,

Datastream help contacts are the black reference binder under tab "product support". The phone help person I called today was very patient, I will definitely call them the next time I have a Datastream question.

Datastream Instructions

Hello Beth,

Please follow the following instructions to use the Create List From Range program in Datastream AFO (in Excel):

1) Paste all of the Sedol's into one column in Excel and highlight them.

2) Go to Datastream AFO and select "Tools" and then "Create List from Range"

3) Follow the steps, meaning give your list a name and select the "store list locally option." Click "OK." This will save your list under the selected code on your computer.

4) When you want to request data on the equities in the list, simply use the green "list picker" button in the Time Series request box and select the name of the list that your created and click "OK."

If you have any additional questions feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Restrepo-Saenz

6 of the 7 articles from HBSP for Prof Restrepo-Saenz Advanced Management Negotiations Course(ORGB 690) are available in BSP. His list refers to one of them as "Blake and Mouton"; the actual title of the article is "A theoretical position of compromising among other styles of conflict resolution" and the author is Evert van de Vliert. The 7th article, "Winning and blocking coalitions..." is now ON RESERVE (HRP 084). He will change his list next year to reflect this info, and remove the reference to the mysterious "McGill Account".

PMB 2006 reports are now available.

Bloomberg Markets

It has come to Peter's attention that students have been subscribing to Bloomberg Markets and somehow all these subscriptions are being delivered to the library. These issues will all be recycled. The library already receives Bloomberg Markets, if the student wants to get their own personal subscription they need to make sure Bloomberg has their home address.

TSX Review: January 2006 - present; at refdesk

Since the TSX Review is available only as an attachment via email, we will be burning all pdf copies of the attachment to a CD. As of January 2006, each monthly title will be available on this CD which will be kept at the reference desk. We will need to make a sign at the "Current Periodicals" shelves so that our clients will know where to find it.

Datastream AFO Add-In

Hi All,

A student brought to my attention today that the Datastream AFO add-in function in Excel is not working. Basically the AFO Add-In allows you to run Datastream queries from within Excel (under Tools menu/ Add-Ins/ AFO option).

I showed them how to use the Datastream interface itself to run queries, so it's a not a huge problem, but just in case another student has the same issue you'll know what's going on. Rajiv is going to follow up with Bob/systems to see how we can re-enable the Excel AFO add-in.

Records in MUSE with no call number

I think we discussed this before, but the May Library Matters brought it to mind again. Due to a change in the sequence of processing new books at LTS there will sometimes be a record saying the book is at HRL but having no call no. You can find the call no. on the MARC record.
